Scholarship Fund Update: Fall 2024

"Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family."
- Kofi Annan

The Heartline Scholarship Fund continues to grow, and Heartline donors are making a tremendous impact by investing in scholarship recipients. Today, we’re celebrating 18 enrolled students and four graduations!

Celebrating graduates

Since our last update, we’ve celebrated four graduations from the program! Three were in Heavy Machinery Operations, a highly applicable skillset in a developing nation like Haiti. Join us in congratulating Frantzdy, Brian, and Claudy (pictured left)! Well done, guys!

Next, we celebrated our first postgraduate degree in July, when Aljany Narcius (pictured right) received her Master's in Media Management from the University of Lille in France!

Aljany is a single mom, a talented photographer and a journalist, who frequently contributes to this very blog (and writes quite a bit for our Fanmi Ansanm newsletter!). We’re so excited to celebrate this amazing milestone! Congratulations, Aljany!

Welcoming new students

Over the past few months we’ve welcomed 10 brand new students to the program! This would not be possible without the faithful, generous support of Heartline donors!

Here’s a bit of info on the newest scholarship recipients.

Charles

Charles joins us from the Heartline Community Care Team. After serving for over three years, he has decided to pursue higher education by enrolling in the Computer Science program at American University of the Caribbean.

Naïka

We first met Naïka in Kids’ Club, when she was only a little girl. She’s been involved in various Heartline programs since, and we’re so happy that she’ll be studying entry-level Computer Literacy and IT at the Heartline Education Center this fall.

Natalie

Natalie has served on the Community Care Team for many years, visiting prisons and a local children’s home. She will be enrolling in the cosmetology program at the Heartline Education Center this fall.

Nephetalie

In the footsteps of Scholarship Program participants Rebecca S. and Gayardo G., Nephetalie plans to become a doctor to invest in her community, and we’re here for it.

While the road is long, Nephthalie will begin her studies this fall and we’re committed to sticking with her all the way through.

Jonise

Jonise is married to our Operations Director, Moise. She will be entering a one-year program focused on culinary arts, and hopes to find employment in a restaurant or cafe.

Roosevelt

Roosevelt also joins us from the Heartline Community Care Team! A relatively new team member, he’s joining Charles at American University of the Caribbean, enrolling in the Electrical Engineering program.

Sabine

Sabine, the daughter of a Heartline employee, will also be enrolling in Heartline’s cosmetology program this fall. Welcome, Sabine!

Gregory

Gregory joins us from the Children’s Education program, having attended school in our Cité Soleil group. Like recent graduates Frantzdy, Brian and Claudy, Gregory will learn to operate heavy machinery at the Youth in Action Vocational Training Center in Port-au-Prince.

Taïna

Taïna serves on the Heartline Community Care Team and assists with our work at the women’s prison facility.

She has expressed interest in pursuing a degree in Nursing and will begin her journey this fall!

Farana

Farana serves with the Heartline Community Care Team when we visit the women’s prison.

Farana recently completed high school and is interested in studying Hospitality and Tourism. She’ll enter a two-year program this winter.

You can open the doors of education to students in Haiti!

Consider a gift to Heartline’s general fund, which equips us to operate Heartline programs including the maternity center, education center, children’s education and community care programs.

You can also directly support our Scholarship Fund, which covers scholarship recipients' tuition, textbooks, and fees so they can focus on their education.

Thank you for all you do to support education access in Haiti — for students like Taïna, Nepthalie, Gregory, Sabine, Natalie, and so many more!
